Meristem

Meristem

A meristem is a plant tissue consisting of undifferentiated cells that divide and generate new cells and tissue. Meristems at the tip of roots and in the buds of shoots are called apical meristems. Cell division in the apical meristem allows for the plant to grow in length. This is called primary growth.
