C4 Plant

C4 Plant

A C4 plant is a plant that prefaces the Calvin cycle with reactions that incorporate CO2 into four carbon compounds. The end product of which supplies CO2 for the Calvin Cycle. In contrast to C3 plants, C4 plants have special adaptations that prevent photorespiration. Corn and sugar cane are examples of agriculturally important C4 plants.
