Heterotroph

Heterotroph

Heterotroph literally means “other- feeders”. A heterotroph is an organism that cannot make its own organic food molecules and must obtain them by consuming other organisms or their organic products. Heterotroph are the consumers or decomposers in the food chain. Most prokaryotes are heterotrophs. This human is an example of a heterotroph because he obtains his carbon atoms from organic compounds.
