Frond

Frond

A frond is an often large, finely divided leaf, usually applied to ferns, cycads, and certain palms. Unlike leaves in flowering plants, fern fronds have both a photosynthetic and reproductive function. Fronds contain a stipe (called a petiole in other plants) supported by a flattened blade called the lamina. They could also be divided into simple, pinnatifid, or pinnate according to their blades. Fronds are able to be divided up to three times. Usually fronds are big as seen in the picture of this palm tree.
