HeterotrophHeterotrophs are organisms that cannot produce their own carbon and nutrients, so they need to feed off other organic carbons to receive the essential nutrients necessary. Hetero stands for different, while -troph stands for nutrition; hence the term different nutrition in which these organisms get their key nutrients from. Once heterotrophs consume their food they storage some of the nutrients for growth and reproduction of the body. These organisms act as consumers in the food chain.
