Lichen

Lichen is a symbiotic relationship between fungus and photosynthetic organisms like cyanobacterium and alga. Lichens are able to live in an array of tough environments with minimal soil. They can also live through droughts. However, because lichens get most of their nourishment from the air, they can not fight through air pollution. The loss of lichens in an environment shows that the air quality there has diminished.
