Phloem

Within the trunk of the tree there is phloem. Phloem is a complex tissue composed of sieve tubes and parenchyma cells usually in fibers. Phloem along with xylem make up the transportation system in vascular system. Its function is to help provide all the plant cells with the sugar made from photosynthesis. Another name for phloem is bast.
