Modified Root of a Plant

In this picture there are sweet potatoes which have a modified root called a tuberous root which are also called storage roots. Because sweet potatoes do not have nodes and internodes they are roots and not stems. Compared to regular potatoes which are modified stems called tubers, the entire sweet potato is the root. The storage part of this root is how carbohydrates are stored inside parenchyma cells which is made in excess by the sweet potato.
