Pollen contains the microgametophytes of seed plants. It is a fine coarse powder. These microgametophytes develop into sperm cells. Pollen has a hard coat to protect the sperm as the pollen moves from stamen to the pistil or from the male to female cone. When pollination occurs (the pollen lands on a compatible pistil or cone) it produces a pollen tube which transfers the sperm to the ovule.
