Ethylene

apbio3

Ethylene is a gaseous hormone that is produced
in all higher plants. Ethylene is mostly associated with fruit ripening, and
also promotes effects of auxin, wounding, and drought.  Ethylene stimulates flower opening and
senescence. Ethylene is produced from methionine in essentially all
tissues.  The flower shown above needs
ethylene in order to open, as it is shown in the picture.
