An ovary on a plant is an enlarged basal portion of the pistil, the female organ in flowers. This ovary contains ovules which can form into seeds upon fertilization. It will ultimately turn into a enclosing the seeds. The fruit is basically a ripened ovary. The fruits are then responsible for dispersing the seeds. The insertion point of the ovary determines whether it is a superior, inferior, or half-inferior ovary. The superior ovary is an ovary connected to the receptacle above other floral parts. Inferior ovaries lie below the attachment of other floral parts. A half-inferior ovary is surrounded by the receptacle.
