A rhizome is the collection and intertwining of several roots to the point where a mass of connected roots appears. These rhizome roots grow perpendicularly to the force of gravity. Rhizomes can also grow vertical shoots. Plants utilize Rhizomes for absorption of water and storage of nutrients. Ginger and asparagus are popular examples of ingestible rhizomes. Many different rhizomes are used for medicinal purposes in traditional medicine. In the picture above we can see a plant that I found with rhizome.
