Commensalism is when one of two species benefit from the other species while the second species has no harm or benefit during the interaction. The picture above is of some species of green lizard. The other species is a type of green plant that grows throughout my backyard. The green plant is the same color as the lizard above. The benefit that the lizard achieves from the plant is camouflage. This lizard was found among the plants and was completely undistinguishable. This helps the lizard by providing protection from predators. The plant in this case is not harmed in any way, but at the same the lizard does not give the plant anything back for the protection it was given. The plant is neither harmed or benefited so the relationship between these two is called commensalism.
