Endosperm

Endosperm

This tissue is produced inside of seeds approximately when fertilization is about to occur. The endosperm surrounds the embryo to provide starch, or protein and oils, as a form of nutrition. This allows endosperm to be a source of nutrition in the human diet. One example of this is wheat endosperm. It is ground into flour to make bread and the remainder of the grain is included as well in the whole wheat flour.
