The ovary of the flower is part of its reproductive system. Its purpose is to hold the flowers ovule(s). It is located near the connection of the petals and sepals. As far as edible ovules go, fruits are made up of the ovary and seed. Ovaries are necessary for the survival of the ovule. Without the ovary, the ovule would be left unprotected and would likely be eaten or somehow damaged by natural occurrences. Above, we can see a flower that has a ovary just below its petals.
