Asexual reproduction

Asexual reproduction

Asexual reproduction is reproduction where the offspring comes from a single parent, and inherits only one set of genes. It usually does not involve meiosis or fertilization. Strawberries practice an interesting form of asexual reproduction involving stolons. A stolon is a horizontal connection between two organisms. In strawberries, they are stems which grow beneath the soil surface and form adventitious roots at the nodes, and new plants from the buds.
