Biological Magnification

Biological Magnification

Biological magnification is also known as biomagnification. This process increases a substance, which is normally something toxic like the pesticide pictured above, in concentration inside of organisms as it moves farther down the entire food chain. A scenario like this would include a small fish ingesting a bit of a pesticide. The predator of the fish eats the fish and ingests the pesticide along with the fish. This process continues and the concentration increases as the greater members of the food chain eat their prey. A typical substance that goes through this process are pesticides.
