A protein is a biologically functional molecule that consists of one of more polypeptides, which are each folded and coiled into a specific three-dimensional structure. The simplest level of a protein is made up of amino acids. Contractile proteins are in charge of movement. Actin, a protein in muscle, is responsible for the contraction of muscles. Myosin is another type of contractile protein.
