Ectotherm

Ectotherm

The picture above shows a lizard hiding in the shade of a tree. Lizards are reptiles and like most reptiles, lizards are ectothermic. When an organism is an ectotherm, they cannot control their internal temperature, unlike endotherms. Ectothermic organisms use external sources to control their interior body temperature, which is the reason why people see reptiles basking in sunlight, to warm them.
