Phloem

Phloem

Phloem transports nutrients and food, like sugar, from the leaves into the storage organs of the plant itself. Unlike xylem, phloem is tissue that is alive but it also creates vascular bundles with the xylem available. It can run both down and up the roots bidirectionally. The phloem is the outer layer of the xylem.
