Predation

DSC_0122

Predation is the symbiotic relationship between two species when one (the predator) kills and feeds on the other (prey). While this is usually used to refer to an interaction between two animals, predation can also refer to animals consuming plant seeds (preventing them from maturing and “killing” them) or carnivorous plants consuming insects. Grazing is a form of predation where the prey is not killed or eaten completely. For example, animals that eat grass do not consume entire blades, allowing them to regrow. Some animals eat only single arms of starfish, which can grow back.
