Analogous Structures

Davie-20130824-00099

A human arm and frontal cat leg are analogous structures. An analogous structure is a structure within different species (in this case human and feline) that have a similar appearance and function but have evolved seperately thus do not share  a common ancestor. In the case shown above, humans and cats both share phalanges, metacarpals, carpals, ulna, humerus, and radius.
