The ovary of an angiosperm is the component of a pistil in the gynonecium which, connecting to a style and stigma, is the depository for the pollen grains which are charge with fertilizing a stored within the ovary ovule.Once an ovule is fertilized, the ovary ripens, developing into a fruit,such as the orange above, responsible for the protection and dissemination of the seed (which itself developed from the skin of the ovule,encasing both the embryo of the fertilized zygote and nutrition) contained within the now transformed ovary.
