Autotroph

Able to make its own food usually through the energy provided by light and the presence of organic compounds, autotrophs maintain themselves alive. Simply, they produce their own food. They can reduce their consumption or use of carbon dioxide and store chemical energy. Algae, a prototroph, a type of autotroph, turn energy from sun light to chemical energy as reduced carbon.
