The Amniotic Egg

The Amniotic Egg

In the group of the amniotes, such as tetrapods and vertebrae, development takes place in an amniotic egg. This chicken egg is terrestrially equipped, as it possesses a hard shell that protects it from drying. Inside it contains a membrane, known as the amnion, which surrounds the embryo. The surrounding amnion provides the embryo with a constant and stable environment; the yolk sac delivers the embryo food and reduces in size throughout its development.
