Anther and Filament of Stamen

IMG_9952The stamen is the male reproductive organ of a flowering plant. It consists of the anther and filament. The anther or the androecium is the site of pollen development. It consists of four fused chambers called microsporangia. There, male sporogenous cells produce microspores which give rise to pollen grains. The filament is the stalk that holds the anther, and provides it with water and nutrients.
