The meristem of this onion is located at the top of this photo. The meristem of a plant contains the undifferentiated cells, and is the location of growth for plants. The function of the meristem is to allow the plant to continue growth and help give rise to various organs within the plant. Mostly, the meristem will give rise to leaves and flowers. Many meristematic cells are actually capable of further cellular division.
