A frond, also known as a large, compound leaf or even a small undivided leaf, has a stalk called the petiole, supporting the flattened blade of the plant. A frond is made up of various sections such as the petiole (stipe), the blade, and the rachis. Fern fronds, specifically, usually bare sporangia, which can be found on the underside of the blade. In some other variations of the fern fronds, stems called rhizomes appear due to the horizontal growth of the fern. The frond is split into a left and a right side; adaxial being left, and abaxial being right.
